Charles III was at Balmoral when his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, died peacefully at the age of 96 on September 8, 2022. Elizabeth II’s official death certificate states that she is
died at 3:10 p.m.a time agreed upon by Dr. Douglas Glass with Sir Edward Young, the late Queen’s private secretary.
On the day of his mother’s death, Charles III slipped away for a few moments, says royal author Robert Hardman. In his book Charles III : New King. New Court. The Inside Storycited by The Mirror in his article of November 5, 2024, Hardman confides that the King of England went to the nearby Birkhall grounds to pick mushrooms.

While Charles III was picking mushrooms, his wife, Queen Camilla, was out for a walk. At approximately 3 p.m. on September 8, 2022, Dr. Douglas Glass, Apothecary to Her Majesty’s Household, was requested to report promptly to the Queen. Princess Anne who remained at the bedside of Elizabeth II
then contacted Charles to tell him to come back.
When the doctor arrived at Balmoral around 3:25 p.m., the Queen seemed to have stopped breathing, mentions the British media The
Mirror. Dr. Glass confirmed that Elizabeth II had indeed died. The time of death was set at 3:10 p.m. by Elizabeth II’s doctor and private secretary.

In a memo, Sir Edward wrote: “Very peaceful. In his sleep. She fainted. She wouldn’t have been aware of anything. No pain“concerning the death of Elizabeth II. Sir Edward had contacted King Charles III to tell him of the Queen’s death himself.
“After being called ‘Your Majesty’ for
the first timeCharles simply said ‘We’re almost there’ and continued to the castle“, confides Hardman in his book. When the private secretary of the late queen asked Charles III under what name he would reign, he was surprised to find that the latter also consoled him.
