A man faces justice for the premeditated murder of his partner in Candiac

Released after being accused of threatening his partner, a 36-year-old man is now facing justice for his premeditated murder, despite a court order prohibiting him from approaching her.

The young woman in her twenties, Guangmei Ye, was found dead Sunday in a residence in Candiac.

Shilei Du, a Montreal resident, was arrested on site, said Sûreté du Québec (SQ) spokesperson Élizabeth Marquis. The provincial police force took over the investigation which had been started by the Roussillon Intermunicipal Police Authority. Mme Marquis specified that the residence was assessed by forensic identification agents.

According to the act of denunciation obtained by Dutythe murder could have been committed a few days earlier.

Shilei Du was arrested in early September on charges of threatening to kill or harm Guangmei Ye. Two days later, he was released with conditions, pending his trial, including a ban on having weapons in his possession and not being near the young woman. He also couldn't communicate with her and had to enter anger management therapy.

Despite his conditions, less than two months later, he was charged with her premeditated murder.

He appeared Monday morning at the Longueuil courthouse and was formally charged. His case is due back in court on November 19.
