A man was charged today with the first degree murder of his wife in Candiac, on the South Shore of Montreal. The accused had already been arrested for threatening to kill her two months earlier.

Guangmei Ye was found unresponsive on Sunday in her residence on Rue de Fontenelle, becoming the thirteenth woman killed in a domestic context in 2024 in Quebec.
Shilei Du, a 36-year-old man, was arrested at the scene. He is accused of the first degree murder of his partner, Guangmei Ye. He appeared today at the Longueuil courthouse.
Shilei Du was arrested on September 7 for making death threats against Guangmei Ye. Awaiting his trial, he was released on conditions last month. According to his release order, he was not allowed to approach the victim or attempt to communicate with her. He also had to undergo anger management therapy.
The Roussillon Intermunicipal Police Authority transferred the investigation to the Crimes against the Person Division of the Sûreté du Québec.
