Geneva firefighters intervened this Monday morning shortly before 9 a.m. for a fire in a parking lot on rue Le-Corbusier, in the Champel district. In the second basement, two vehicles were on fire. The Geneva Fire and Rescue Service (SIS) indicates that the flames were completely contained.
However, there remained a lot of work, because a lot of black smoke had released and invaded the premises, causing “significant damage to the vehicles parked on both levels of the car park”.
It was necessary to carry out a long smoke extraction operation, explains the SIS in a press release, “mobilizing seven powerful turbo-fans, including one mounted on our new intervention robot, used for the very first time during an intervention”.
It is specified that a person bothered by the smoke was transported by ambulance to hospital. And that the apartments in the building “fortunately were not too affected by the smoke from the fire”.
A month ago, the SIS unveiled its two new robots, called Eve and Wall-E. Each weighs 700 kilos, can carry 800 kilos and has a cannon “with a capacity of 2000 liters per minute, which can project water 30 meters”, RTS reported. These tracked machines from the French company Shark Robotics are remotely controlled. These miniature tanks equipped with sensors and cameras must be able to probe a hostile environment.
The purchase of Eve and Wall-E was possible thanks to the help of an anonymous patron. Each costs around 400,000 francs.
