Residents of the south of the department should expect it: from November 17, and for twelve days, the sky will be the site of a major aerial exercise bringing together fighter planes and military helicopters which will be able to operate at very low altitude. altitude. This operation takes place as part of the training of forward air support controllers, organized by the air support training center – CFAA – 01.451 at Nancy-Ochey air base 133.

Around a hundred French and German soldiers on the ground

The aircraft will be accompanied by around a hundred French and German soldiers working from a field command post in the town of Meloisey. “For the CFAA, it is a question of training around twenty French and German trainees in the profession of Joint terminal attack controller (JTAC), coordinators of air support for ground troops”, specify the State services in a press release. The maneuvers will therefore result in the occasional passage of planes or helicopters at an altitude of 500 feet (around 150 meters) in a vast quadrilateral east of Beaune and south of Dijon. If supersonic booms often erupt in the Côte-d’Orien sky, noise pollution, in particular what is called jet noise, will resonate in the area.

A second zone, between the north of Vitteaux to Savilly via Liernais and Pouilly-en-Auxois, will also see aircraft operating but at a much higher altitude, between 1,500 and 5,000 meters, with less noise impact. Aeronautical clubs in the sector, and their members, will therefore have to exercise great vigilance during their flights.

Anti-collision system

For the record, it is not uncommon for the territory to be crossed by fighter planes: the north and south west of the department constitute part of the very low altitude network of the French Defense (RTBA). These air zones are used for training single fighter aircraft, or patrols, with minimum flight floors of zero feet and at speeds of up to 900 km/h.

These zones, which are highly regulated, can be “activated” at the request of the armed services: an online map, called Azba (activation of low altitude zones), allows you to know the days and times of training. When they are, their avoidance is obligatory for light aircraft since fighters deactivate their anti-collision warning system. The Burgundian section is also activated for this Tuesday, November 12.
