The head of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez announced on Monday that the Council of Ministers approved a new package of aid measures amounting to nearly 3.8 billion euros for the victims of the deadly floods of 29 October in the southeast of the country.
The government had already announced last week a first aid plan of 10.6 billion euros following this disaster, which caused more than 220 deaths and dozens of missing people.
“The government is and will remain mobilized, with all the necessary means and for as long as necessary (…), we will continue our efforts to restore normality in the areas affected by this natural disaster,” assured the head of the executive during a press conference.

Mr. Sánchez further clarified that these measures, intended to provide an immediate response to the disaster and to reconstruct the affected areas, are adopted urgently and will come into force upon their publication in the Official State Bulletin (BOE). .
“The lesson to be learned is that we are facing a climate emergency that will demand the best from each of us,” he added, emphasizing the importance of “listening science and learning from it” and “strengthening public services to provide an effective and equitable response to natural disasters”.
The first aid package announced the previous week included support for small and medium-sized businesses, self-employed workers and households who suffered death, disability and damage to their homes or property.
