INCYGNIFIANT ? – 2024
130 x 162 cm
Oil on linen.
This painting approaches equality from two angles: first of all, it denounces inequality.
While the man braves the elements alone, heading towards a distant unknown, the little swans stroll peacefully, as a family, protected by their intact social bonds, and seem to pay him no attention.
There are many inequalities and discrepancies: the size, the color, the different directions of one and the other, the looks…
The title reinforces this theme by asking the question of importance or lack thereof.
Equality, because this painting also speaks of the similarities in our behavior in the face of adversity, in the quest to improve our living conditions, at the risk of losing it. This deeply human attitude should connect us instead of separating us.
The orange life jacket, a point of warm color in the middle of the dark monochromes of other colors, symbolizes this strength nourished by hope.
On a more intellectual level, the motif resonates with the theory of the black swan, developed by the statistician Nassim Taleb, notably in his essay The Black Swan: “the power of the unpredictable” is a theory according to which we call a certain black swan unforeseeable event which has a low probability of occurring and which, if it occurs, has consequences of considerable and exceptional scope.
This painting carries hope, that a “black swan” will occur and that we will know how to take the improbable step of seeing beyond our differences to find our similarities.

  • Environment Prize: Jimmy Richer,

    Entropy – 2021
    213 x 144 cm.
Indian ink, colored inks, paper, wooden and plexiglass frame.

Entropia: German Entropy, from the Greek entropê, action of transforming.
Name given by Clausius to the state function denoted S which characterizes the state of “disorder” of a system.
« In the middle, a series of large-format drawings by Jimmy Richer paint the portrait of a telluric present, where everything is catastrophe and becoming: roots growing, corals floating, waves overlapping, blades of fire flaming , clashes of stars, jolts of terrestrial plates, hurricanes of air and matter create a hymn to entropy as a secret force that drives living things into momentum of a perpetual metamorphosis. Lining the walls of the room, these images punctuated by grids and back-illuminated are so many windows, ajar opening onto another, suspended, foreign time. Excerpt from a text by Viviana Birolli.

In a 2021 video that emerged today when he was Donald Trump's Republican running mate, JD Vance attacked “unhappy cat women” because they lacked offspring. The popular expression in the United States of “catlady” is a misogynistic cliché depicting women choosing to live without a partner or children, surrounded only by cats.
“Here is my very latest painting, a cat lady without children, first version because I think there will be more; The arrogance and misogyny of JD Vance's comment hurts me more and more every day.
