US President-elect Donald Trump spoke by telephone this Thursday with Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom he asked not to escalate the war in Ukraine, the Washington Post reported on Sunday.

According to the newspaper, which cites people familiar with the matter, Donald Trump reminded his interlocutor “Washington’s significant military presence in Europe”. He also recalled that he would like to discuss with him “of the imminent resolution of the war in Ukraine”.

According to media reports, Donald Trump spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday and said he would support Kyiv.

During the election campaign, Donald Trump said he intended to end the war in Ukraine, while the United States represents Kyiv’s main support in the face of the Russian invasion. The president-elect, who will take office in January, is scheduled to meet with current President Joe Biden at the White House on Tuesday.
