Geneva actress Maria Mettral presented her latest weather forecast this Sunday, at the end of 7:30 p.m. on RTS. A look back at the journey of a presenter who spoke about rain and shine, literally, for 35 years.
The first time she entered the Salon des Romands was from the set of Midi Public, in 1985, to talk about a show in which she was performing.
Four years later, it was a bit by chance that the actress became Madame Météo for Télévision Suisse Romande, after an apprenticeship phase.
Come rain or shine, 35 years serving the public
Maria Mettral made her first weather report on January 23, 1989, the day Salvador Dali died. Since then, she has become one of the emblematic figures of the French-speaking public TV channel.
She sang there, gave readings, commented on football or presented special programs, all while continuing for 35 years to comment on the weather in French-speaking Switzerland and in the future.
The comedy continues
In an interview with Morning, however, she reveals that she is not completely retiring. “I am continuing my profession as an actress that I started 43 years ago. I have shows confirmed until the end of 2025 and perhaps beyond. I am very busy with that, in addition to my training and acting classes.”
And to thank the French-speaking viewers who have followed her for more than three decades: “I like this relationship of proximity, almost of friendship, which has been woven between us through the screen. (… ) I encourage them to come see me at the theater or say hello to me in the street.”
