This Sunday, November 10, 2024, at 1:02 p.m., marks the long-awaited start of the tenth edition of the Vendée Globe. Four things to know about this incredible race:

  • Record number of participants : 40 skippers are setting off for this 10th edition, a number never reached before. Among them, 14 sailors are participating for the first time in this legendary race, and there are also six women and two skippers with disabilities, a first in the history of the competition.
  • Diversity of profiles : The skippers are aged from 23 to 65 years old, with Jean Le Cam (65 years old) as the oldest and Violette Dorange (23 years old) as the youngest. Some are regulars like Yannick Bestaven, winner in 2020, while others are discovering this adventure for the first time.
  • The route : As always, the Vendée Globe is a race around the world without stopovers or assistance. The skippers will have to face extreme conditions while passing through the three legendary capes: Good Hope, Leeuwin and Horn. The route totals approximately 45,000 km.
  • Record goal : The current record is 74 days, held by Armel Le Cléac’h since 2017. The boats having evolved in recent years, some hope to beat this time during this edition
