– Jonak must quickly sell off stocks of the three incriminated models.
Fans of Jonak shoes are rushing to acquire the models Dhapop, Dhapou et Ivanaproduction of which must cease within a year, according to the decision rendered by the Paris Court of Appeal on October 16, 2024. The conflict dates back to 2020, when Chanel accused Jonak of taking inspiration from its famous two-tone slingbacks, created in 1957 by Gabrielle Chanel. In 2022, a first decision by the Paris Commercial Court imposed compensation of 17,500 euros on Jonak for parasitism, deemed insufficient by Chanel, who appealed. This time, Jonak was ordered to pay 150,000 euros for economic damage and 30,000 euros for moral damageand will have to withdraw three of its flagship models from the market within a year under penalty of a fine of 1,000 euros per day of delay, Yahoo News reports Nov. 6.
This legal decision has whetted the appetites of those looking for good deals, with the French brand having to quickly sell off its stocks. Although the official Jonak website does not offer discounts, the offending models can be found at reduced prices at some retailers like Galeries Lafayette and Sarenza, while stocks last. However, only the black and beige versions of the models are affected, leaving the colored versions still available.

Rush on banned models
As our colleagues indicate, many Internet users reacted online by expressing their intention to purchase these models before their final withdrawal from the market. On TikTok, comments like “I have to buy them quickly before they run out» or «Go buy them quickly to make Chane angry” have become common, while others share tips for finding the latest stocks.
Furthermore, some customers even say they prefer Jonak to Chanel models, citing better comfort. An Internet user testifies: “Having tested both, the Jonaks are much more comfortable and adjustable“, suggesting that despite their popularity, Chanel models do not always meet consumers’ expectations for comfort.

A judgment that divides consumers
The announcement of Jonak’s conviction sparked strong reactions, dividing Internet users between those who support Chanel and those who defend the brand. On social networks, notably TikTok, users approved the decision, arguing that Jonak’s reproductions harm Chanel’s image by making the iconic model more accessible and less exclusive. Some believe that Chanel made the right decision to protect its iconic model from cheap copies that “popularize” the image of the luxury brand.
Others, however, expressed disappointment, calling the decision “ridiculous and hypocritical“. According to them, Coco Chanel herself said she wasn’t bothered by the copies. In addition, users question why other brands, such as Bocage or Eram, which also produce similar models, are not affected. This feeling of injustice is accentuated by the fact that international platforms like Shein can continue to sell similar copies without being worried.
