Israel: Macron will attend the match while the Hebrew state recommends to its citizens not to go

The objective would be “to send a message of fraternity and solidarity after the intolerable anti-Semitic acts which followed the match in Amsterdam (Netherlands)”, says the French president's entourage.

Emmanuel Macron will attend the -Israel football match at the Stade de France on Thursday, a week after violence broke out in the Dutch capital on the sidelines of the match between Ajax Amsterdam and Maccabi Tel-Aviv, said Sunday. 'Elysée to AFP.

Five Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters were briefly hospitalized in the violence which took place overnight from Thursday to Friday. Local police reported around sixty people arrested and Israel organized emergency flights to repatriate its citizens.

The French president “strongly condemned” Friday the “violence against Israeli citizens in Amsterdam” which, according to him, recall “the most shameful hours in history”.

“Avoid completely going to sporting events”

For their part, the Israeli authorities on Sunday called on supporters to avoid going to the France – Israel match.

“The National Security Council recommends that Israelis abroad act with precautions […] particularly during the coming week, to completely avoid going to sporting events and cultural events in which Israelis participate, especially the next match of the Israeli team in ,” indicated in a press release this organization dependent on the office of the Israeli Prime Minister.

Furthermore, an international right-wing Jewish movement announced on Sunday that it was planning a rally on Wednesday in Paris to fight against anti-Semitism, in the presence of a far-right Israeli minister. “We are proud Zionists and have no apologies […] We will gather on Wednesday in Paris and on Thursday at the football match which is also threatened by jihadists,” Yigal Brand, president of the World Betar umbrella organization, said in a statement.
