On November 7, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, was visiting Jerusalem (Israel), but a diplomatic incident cut short this meeting.
In an interview with Le Parisien, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, returned to the diplomatic incident which took place last Thursday during his visit to Jerusalem.
That day, two French gendarmes were arrested by Israeli security forces while they were on the Eleona, a French national domain where Jean-Noël Barrot was then to go. In a press release, France then indicated that “Without having been authorized, Israeli security entered this place armed. The minister did not wish to go to the area under these conditions.”
An incident which, three days later, did not end since the Minister of Foreign Affairs returned to it by explaining to our colleagues that “this intrusion is unworthy of the relationship between France and Israel” and that this situation “is truly scandalous.”
The Israeli ambassador in Paris was then summoned for these facts. “We are looking at all options and we will not stop there”concludes Jean-Noël Barrot.
A tense relationship between France and Israel
For more than a month, relations between France and Israel have been strained when the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, spoke out in favor of stopping arms deliveries to Israel which are used in the conflict in Gaza. .
A decision that was not to the taste of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
