Two supporters of the Argentine Football club Rosario Central were shot and killed Saturday evening near their team’s stadium after an Argentine championship match, media reported.
The press named the victims as the leader of the barra brava of Rosario Central, Andres “Pillin” Bracamonte, and another member of the group, Daniel “Rana” Atardo. The barras bravas are mafia organizations linked to several of the country’s top clubs and run by fierce supporters.
Bracamonte, who was banned from attending Rosario matches due to his history of violence, and Atardo reportedly ambushed near the stadium Gigante de Arroyito, where their club lost 1-0 against San Lorenzo on Saturday, during the 22nd day of the Argentine championship.
During his 25 years at the head of the barra brava of Rosario, Bracamonte was the subject of around thirty assassination attemptsthe media reported. He appeared in court on Friday for gender-based violencefor which the prosecutor had requested two years of imprisonment.
Bracamonte has also been accused in the past extortion, criminal conspiracy and money laundering. Fights between supporters are commonplace in Argentine football and have caused more than 350 victims since the creation of the professional league in the late 1800s, according to the NGO Salvemos al Futbol (Save Football).
