This Saturday, late in the afternoon, the ASSE players hosted Fleury in a highly anticipated meeting at the Salif Keita stadium. The Greens were in fact on three consecutive defeats before this match. A look back at the match won 3-2 by Laurent Mortel's players who are regaining confidence one week before the Derby.
For the first time this season, ASSE played a match which took place between day and night. The lights at the Salif Keita stadium gradually took over during this very important match. Before the meeting, Laurent Mortel appeared in front of the media.
“It will be important to return to our fundamentals so as not to lose and stop this negative spiral. Taking a point against this Fleury team would be a good thing, knowing that they are on a good dynamic at the moment. We will have to know how to be interesting in content as we were against Strasbourg without making the same mistakes and being more compact defensively being able to return to what we were able to do against Paris FC: being dominated without exposing ourselves too much.”
The Stéphanoises made a good start to the match and created chances against a Fleury team which resisted well. The visitors manage to be dangerous when they counterattack. Shortly before the quarter of an hour of play, Cindy Caputo reversed the game and found Sarah Stratigakis. Unfortunately, ASSE does not manage to finish this opportunity: the opposing goalkeeper wins his face-to-face. A few minutes later, the Greens obtained two consecutive free kicks, but once again, they were unable to finish. Finally, they end up making it happen after a superb ball recovery. Solène Champagnac intercepts the ball around thirty meters from the opposing goals. The Saint-Etienne captain immediately serves Cindy Caputo, who finds Chloé Tapia almost instantly. The latter makes the difference on her left side and serves Cindy Caputo in the penalty area. Alone, the French international adjusts her header, which ends up in the back of the net: 1-0!
Fleury then tries to get his foot on the ball. After ASSE's goal, the visitors managed to create a few chances, but the Greens held on. On a new free kick obtained on the hour mark, the Stéphanoises have a great opportunity to score a new goal. On a superb ball, Fiona Bogi cuts at the near post and pushes the ball into the back of the net! 2-0 for the Greens! Cindy Caputo even had the opportunity to score a third goal shortly before halftime. The attacker strikes at the edge of the penalty area, but her powerful shot goes over. The referee whistles for half-time, and the Stéphanoises are well in place!
Once again, the Stéphanoises started the second act well and put pressure on Fleury. They came close to scoring the third goal at the start of the second half, but the ball finally went over the goal. When Fleury recovers the ball, the visitors manage to be more dangerous. At the hour mark, Sarah Cambot was hit, but the referee allowed the advantage. Amandine Pierre-Louis grabs the ball and is close to scoring the third goal, but her shot goes over. However, ASSE finally manages to almost take shelter! Chloé Tapia finds Sarah Cambot, who serves Sarah Stratigakis. She wins her face-to-face, 3-0! Fleury tries to react and appears dangerous. After a first saving tackle, the ball returns a few seconds later to Fleury's feet, and a strike from outside the area deceives Maryne Gignoux: 3-1…
After their goal, the Fleury players found a second wind and now dominated possession of the ball. However, this does not prevent ASSE from creating chances, in particular thanks to the two entrants, Adèle Connesson and Faustine Bataillard, who led a great action stopped by the Fleury goalkeeper. The changes made by Laurent Mortel seem to do good for the Stéphanoises, who manage to keep the ball a little better. Fleury increased the pace without however managing to conclude, until the 86th minute, where Mayi-Kith lost his duel in the penalty area. 3-2, nothing is decided! The last minutes are very complicated for ASSE which is suffering. In added time, Fleury believes he has equalized, but the goal is ultimately flagged offside. Chloé tapia manages to win a free kick very high on the pitch which allows the Greens to breathe a little. Laurent Mortel takes the opportunity to make a change with the exit of Amandine Pierre-Louis. After having suffered a lot, ASSE held on until the very end of five minutes of added time. A victory that feels good! The Greens temporarily move up to fourth position.
Place au Derby !
This victory does a lot of good for the Greens, who are returning to success. Not everything has been easy, but the essentials are assured. Now for the derby, which will take place next weekend. The ASSE players will have to display the same state of mind on the pitch, with better defensive solidity. See you in Lyon next Saturday at 9 p.m. for a meeting to follow on Canal+ Foot.
