The strikes targeted three buildings and caused significant damage to dozens of houses in this town in southern Lebanon, stronghold of the pro-Hamas armed group.

Seven people, including two girls, died in Israeli strikes on the city of Tire in southern Lebanon, a stronghold of Lebanese Hezbollah, according to a new report from the Ministry of Health announced on Saturday. “Israeli enemy strikes on Tire killed seven people, including two girls, and injured 46” in the coastal city on Friday, the ministry said, after bodies were pulled from the rubble.

Body remains were found and “will be identified by DNA testing”he added in a press release. “Operations continue to search for missing people.” An initial report from the ministry on Friday reported three deaths and 30 injured. On site, rescuers transported bodies on stretchers amid the rubble, while rubble and twisted pieces of metal littered the street, according to AFP images.

According to the official Lebanese agency Ani, the strikes targeted three buildings and caused significant damage to dozens of houses. Elsewhere in southern Lebanon, a “enemy combat aircraft” destroyed two houses in the town of Nabatiyeh.

In total, nearly three thousand deaths

Israel has intensified its air campaign in neighboring Lebanon since September 23 and launched a ground offensive on September 30 in the south of that country, after a year of cross-border clashes between its army and Hezbollah.

On Saturday, the pro-Iranian movement claimed responsibility for several rocket attacks on northern Israel. He said in particular that he had targeted a military base north of Haifa as well as its outskirts and had shot down an Israeli drone. Hezbollah opened the front against Israel in support of its Palestinian ally, Hamas, in the aftermath of the October 7, 2023 attack by Hamas on Israel, which sparked the war in Gaza.

Israel says it wants to neutralize Hezbollah to allow the return of 60,000 inhabitants to the north of its territory, displaced by incessant rocket fire since the start of the war in Gaza. More than 2,700 people have been killed in Lebanon since September 23, the majority civilians, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
