Extremely calm atmosphere around the thermal baths of Berthemont-les-Bains this weekend, and for good reason: this day marks more than the end of the season, the end of exploitation of the site by Valvital.
The group specializing in thermal cures, thermal spas and institutes, cosmetics throws in the towel after 20 years of management. Covid, storm Alex and finally storm Aline would have taken over this establishment located in the small village of Roquebillière.
Enough to cause concern in the sector as for Katarina. “There are people who come for the thermal baths. To eat, drink and some stay with us and sleep at the hotel. It must not close, we must keep the village alive all the same“, says this resident.
Met a little further on, Maurice is sitting on a bench with a friend. He, too, is upset by this closure: “it brings a lot of seasonal rentals and then it creates jobs“.
According to estimates, between 200 and 250 direct and indirect jobs have been created thanks to these thermal baths. The mayor, annoyed by the hasty conclusions, assures him: the thermal baths will not close permanently.
Moreover, a new call for tenders has been launched and the new delegate should be known at the beginning of December.
For Gérard Manfredi, a specialist in the sector is needed: “I am not in favor of operating under municipal management. We do not have the means to advertise in France and abroad. I would like him to have a delegate who is really efficient“.
The department supports this approach and is banking on a normal reopening of the only spa resort in the Alpes Maritimes in April 2025.
