A prestigious prize in philanthropy for Jean Champagne

COMMUNITY. Beaucevillois Jean Champagne is one of the two recipients of the prize Volunteer par excellence in philantrophy, of the Association of Professionals in Philanthropy – Quebec Section. He received this distinction on November 13, during an event held by the Association as part of National Philanthropy Day.

His candidacy was submitted by four organizations with which he has been involved over the years: the Club Parentaide Beauce-Centre, Cultiver pour Partager, the Beauceville Sports and Leisure Foundation, as well as the Corporation du Quartier de la Débacle de Beauceville.

Mr. Champagne learned the news during a telephone call. “It was a member of the jury who called me to tell me that I had won the Volunteer of the Year award. He told me that the jury was impressed, because they rarely see a person’s application being submitted by four different organizations,” he says.

He also confides that he was surprised by this call, since none of the organizations had warned him. “At first, I thought I was being played a joke. When the person named the organizations in question, I understood that it was true. […] It’s also a high-level recognition when you see who the jurors are,” he adds.

In an interview with the newspaper, Mr. Champagne said he was touched to receive such an honor. “I want to support causes, whether it’s the fight against food insecurity or supporting families. Everything is done according to my values and those of my wife, Louise Mathieu,” he mentions.

Ms. Mathieu’s name came up several times during the interview. “I could never have done what I did without his help. The creation of the Parentaide Club was his idea. I also want to acknowledge the support of all the administrators and volunteers. I receive this distinction as a person, but it is also in the name of the volunteers and donors who worked with Louise and me,” confides the Beaucevillois.

This distinction did not go unnoticed by the elected officials of Beauceville, who wanted to highlight his work during the November 4 council meeting. “We thank Mr. Champagne for his voluntary contribution to our community […]. We are proud to underline this and we hope that Mr. Champagne will be able to be involved for a long time to come for the benefit of our community,” read the mayor, François Veilleux.

Please note that the other recipient of this award is Jacynthe Côté, from Normandin in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean. Their applications arrived ex aequo after the jury’s analysis.
