Up to 15 years in prison: Three people charged in connection with Liam Payne’s death

Liam Payne was under the influence of drugs when he died after falling from the third floor of a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires. The Argentine justice system indicates in a press release that it has charged three people linked to his death.

The 31-year-old singer died after falling from the third floor balcony of a hotel in Argentina on October 16.

On Thursday, Argentine authorities confirmed in a statement that a person who accompanied Liam Payne during his stay in Buenos Aires had been charged with “abandonment of a person followed by death and supply and facilitation of drugs.” A hotel employee and a third person, identified by surveillance cameras, were accused of supplying drugs to the star. Nine searches were carried out.

None of those arrested have been named. They face up to fifteen years in prison under Argentine law.

The Crown confirmed that toxicology tests revealed traces of alcohol, cocaine and prescription antidepressants in Liam Payne’s system at the time of his death. Investigators reviewed hours of video recordings from security cameras, as well as the singer’s phone calls and messages, to determine his latest movements. His laptop is still being examined, along with other devices.

The Strip That Down singer was staying at the Casa Sur hotel in Buenos Aires when he fell. The autopsy concluded that the British star died of “multiple trauma” and internal and external bleeding caused by his fall. According to the Argentine authorities, the singer was “in a state of semi-or total unconsciousness” when he fell. Which would rule out the suicide theory.

Earlier this week, authorities confirmed to the BBC that Liam Payne’s body had been released to his family and repatriated to the UK following the completion of laboratory tests and toxicology reports.
