Work to reduce the risk of flooding in the Oratoire district

This Thursday, November 7, 2024, the site visit to the work to reduce the risk of flooding in the Oratoire district took place, carried out this Thursday afternoon in the presence of Jean-Pierre Giran, Mayor of the City of Hyères , Philippe Mahé, Prefect of , Patrick Martinelli, President of the Syndicat Mixte du Bassin Versant du Gapeau which is leading the work, the study technicians as well as local residents.

The Oratory district, which accommodates 700 inhabitants, is particularly exposed to the frequent flooding of the Gapeau.

The work, which began in September, aims to make the neighborhood safer by reducing the risk of overflow and improving drainage.

They will thus make it possible to protect the district from water for a flood with a return period of 20 years (one possibility in 20 of occurring in the year) and to reduce the water levels for a flood of 100 years.

The work operation, which will be finalized in May 2025, provides:

  • to divert the Muât flood channel and restore the river bed over a length of 250m
  • to stabilize the banks and maintain the vegetation of the channel
  • to secure the fording of the Plan du Pont road.
