The Frenchman, who requested anonymity, had good flair during the American presidential election. He won several bets on the Polymarket site.
A real ploy
After meticulously analyzing the polls, a former French trader took the risk of betting millions of dollars online on a victory of Donald Trump to the American presidential. His approach, which he describes as a bet “against the accuracy of polls”has proven to be profitable. With keen flair, he pocketed nearly 50 million dollars (around 46 million euros), thanks to judicious bets on the Polymarket site. Known under the pseudonym “Theo”this Frenchman chose to remain anonymous. According to information from the Wall Street Journal relayed by The Parisianhe placed 30 million dollars in favor of the victory of the Republican candidate. He used a real stratagem by multiplying the accounts. He also varied the bets on various issues such as “Will Trump win the presidential election?”, “Will Trump win the popular vote?” et “Will Trump win Pennsylvania?”.
A purely financial motivation
In an interview with Wall Street Journal, “Théo” says his mathematical analysis skills helped him understand the flaws in the polls. They then predicted a lead from Kamala Harris. Convinced that the odds in favor of the Democrats were overestimated, he made the strategic choice to bet everything against the tide. Despite his bets for the success of Donald Trump, “Theo” claims that his choices in no way reflect his political opinions. “My only objective is to generate profits”, he confided, thus emphasizing a financial motivation, detached from any political ideology.
