“We can affirm that Liam Payne was partially or completely unconscious at the time of his fall,” specifies an official press release from Argentinian investigators. The 31-year-old singer fell from the balcony of his hotel in Buenos Aires on October 16.
This loss of consciousness explains the absence of a protective reaction during the fall, confirming that the artist did not act intentionally. “In the state he was in, he did not know what he was doing and could not be conscious of it.”
The injuries noted on the singer’s body are exclusively linked to the fall, ruling out any external implication or self-mutilation. Toxicological analyzes also revealed the presence of alcohol, narcotics and an antidepressant in his body. The causes of death are attributed to severe traumatic injuries accompanied by internal and external bleeding.
Searches and several suspects
As part of the investigation, police carried out nine new searches in the Argentine capital. Three people are now charged with crimes in connection with this tragedy: a close businessman, a hotel employee and an individual suspected of being a drug trafficker.
The charges vary depending on the individual: the businessman is accused of leaving Liam Payne in a vulnerable situation, while the employee and the alleged trafficker are prosecuted for facilitating access to prohibited substances.
This affair continues to raise many questions, and the Argentine authorities are continuing their investigations to establish all responsibilities in this tragedy.
