► Hezbollah claims attack on Israeli naval base
The Lebanese Islamist movement Hezbollah announced on Friday November 8 that it had launched missiles at an Israeli naval base near Haifa in northern Israel, the second attack of this type in less than 24 hours.
This was launched “in response to the attacks and massacres committed by the Israeli enemy” in Lebanon, Hezbollah said, specifying that it had targeted the Stella Maris naval base, northwest of Haifa. Israel and the pro-Iranian movement have been at open war since September 23.
► Israel Katz takes oath
The new Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz was sworn in on the night of Thursday to Friday in front of Parliament, two days after the surprise dismissal of his predecessor.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fired his defense minister Yoav Gallant on Tuesday, after differences over the conduct of the war in Gaza, and replaced him with his foreign affairs counterpart Israel Katz who promised to defeat the “enemies” of the country.
► Israel should reopen a crossing to Gaza
Israel will reopen a new crossing point in the besieged Gaza Strip, the US State Department said Thursday evening, a few days before the expiration next week of a US ultimatum on increasing the humanitarian aid to the Palestinians.
“We have seen Israel take a number of important steps in recent weeks… and they plan to open an additional new crossing point at Kissoufim in the coming days”State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller told reporters.
