Barnier, Hollande, Malhuret… Here are five “kind words” in the running for the 2024 political humor prize

They are not always funny (or even rarely) but they sometimes know how to make us laugh. After Rachida Dati, Bruno Retailleau or Ségolène Royal, new personalities are in the running to receive the “Press Club, Humor and Politics” prize, which will reward next February the “most hilarious” short phrase of the year 2024, whether whether voluntary or not.

The jury, chaired by Bernard de la Villardière, unveiled the third selection for the 2024 Prize on Thursday. Five new short sentences were selected, including two spoken by the Prime Minister, Michel Barnier.

For the record, the jury's grand prize was awarded last year to Edouard Philippe, who declared: “If you think you have to be a playboy in to be elected, I still have a few counter-examples! » He thus succeeded Fabien Roussel, winner of 2022, for the following sentence: “Petrol stations are the only place in France where the one who holds the gun is also the one who is robbed. »

Enjoy, it's not every day that political news makes us laugh. We give you this new batch here:

Michel Barnier, Prime Minister, ignites the leavers

To Gabriel Attal, deputy and outgoing Prime Minister, regarding the finance bill in the National Assembly on October 1:

« Mr. Attal, I will be very attentive to your proposals for additional savings to deal with a deficit… which I found when I arrived. » »

About Bruno Lemaire during the LR Parliamentary Days, reported by The Parisian November 12th:

« He said: “I gave everything”… That’s for sure. » »

Olivier Faure and the “postman” Hollande

Olivier Faure, First Secretary of the PS, in theOpinionOctober 21.

« Hollande has never stopped being a presidential candidate. He writes a book every six months. It's no longer postcards, it's the postman himself »

François Hollande not a fan of Ikea

François Hollande, former President of the Republic, and current deputy, cited by the Chained Duck last November 5.

« No one will join the PS if the score of the next congress is disrupted. No one wants to come into a family where dishes are thrown at each other. Especially if it's from Ikea. » »

Claude Malhuret, professional translator

Claude Malhuret, Senator Horizons de l'Allier, in a speech in the Senate on November 2.

« If you have understood the New Popular Front, it is because it has been poorly explained to you. » »

That's it for the political laugh. You can now return to traditional political news and, for example, wonder how France will balance its budget in 2025. See you in February for the awards ceremony.
