A woman in her thirties and a man in his sixties lost their lives following a fire that occurred Wednesday evening in Sainte-Anne-des-Monts.
The alert was given around 8:30 p.m. for a fire on First Avenue East.
While battling the flames, firefighters discovered two people who were taken to hospital.
Unfortunately, their deaths were noted.
Thursday, a fire scene technician worked on the scene to try to determine the origin of the blaze.
As there were deaths, the Sûreté du Québec’s major crimes squad is also investigating the fire.
According to the police, it is too early to speculate on the origin of the incident.
This fire has no connection with the events that occurred last week in Sainte-Anne-des-Monts and Cap-Chat where gunfire was exchanged, with police conducting a separate investigation.
An altercation occurred on October 28 between four people and one of them was injured in Cap-Chat.
Three individuals were arrested.
A similar incident occurred in Sainte-Anne-des-Monts a little later
On Thursday, the Sûreté du Québec deployed impact mitigation measures.
These actions are defined by a series of measures adapted to the needs of residents of the MRC Haute-Gaspésie.
Police officers and local community policing coordinators met with residents to discuss and collect any information relevant to police work.
Door-to-door visits, business visits as well as meetings with municipal elected officials were carried out and this work will continue.
Increased surveillance is being deployed in different sectors.
