Eddy Mitchell opens up. This Thursday, November 7, his book, entitled Autobiographyin which he tells his story, his life, his journey. The rocker recalls the great moments of his career and his life, notably his family life and his regrets about his role as a father.
Note that this Friday, November 8, Eddy Mitchell was to release a new album, the fourth of his career: Friendsbut his release was postponed due to his state of healthe. Aged 82, he had to interrupt the promotion of this new record, which is now expected for November 29.
Our colleagues from Télé-Loisirs relayed some passages from this work. Besides his rants, Eddy Mitchell spoke about his private life and his relationship with his children.
Eddy Mitchell: his family, his absences, his regrets
The singer is the father of three children. Eddy and Marilyn, born from his first union with Françoise Lavit. As well as Pamela, born from his relationship with his wife Muriel Bailleul. His career took up a lot of time. But “I don’t think I was a bad father”he writes, a feeling that his children share, according to him. But he admits that it can sometimes be more complicated and modestly talks about his regrets regarding his absences. “With my children it was more complicated to be there. […] J’was quite an absent father. Lots on the roads. I was the type to show up with a Christmas tree on Easter“he says.
During his story, he recounts this “crime” that he committed out of love for his daughter, in order to please her. Present in an American studio to record songs, he sees hanging on the wall a gold record by the artist Linda Ronstadt. His daughter Marilyn adores him. Eddy Mitchell then decides to take her home… “As a good dad, I decide to give her a gift and I will discreetly take Linda’s record off the wall, with the intention of putting it in my suitcase”remembers Johnny Hallyday's comrade. But his attempt will fail. Eddy Mitchell is caught red-handed and gets yelled at. He obviously had to put the object back in its original place. “Definitely, I was not made to be a delinquent”he said with great humor.
