Joe Biden speaks after Donald Trump's victory: “It's been a historic presidency”

The current president has already contacted his successor: “Yesterday, I spoke with Donald Trump and I told him that I was going to ensure a smooth and peaceful transition, because that is what the American people deserve” .

Joe Biden then returned to the principle of democracy, saying that this implied that currently, “it is a time of victory for some and defeat for others”. “You cannot love your country only when you win, nor can you love your neighbor only when he agrees with you,” the Democrat said. “Our electoral system is fair and transparent […] whether we win or lose, we must respect the people who worked for the elections, participated in the counting and protected the integrity of the elections.”

He again thanked his team for the work accomplished during his term as president, encouraging them not to forget “what was accomplished”: “It has been a historic presidency. A presidency for all Americans. A large part of our work will still have an impact over the next ten years […] We leave behind a strong economy, the strongest in the world.”
“We have two months to finish our mandate, every day must count. A defeat does not mean we are defeated […] We must keep the faith,” he concluded.
