The elected officials of the Nice-Côte d’Azur metropolitan council were evacuated around 4 p.m. this Thursday from the Mediterranean University Center. The cause was the triggering of a fire alarm in the middle of the session. A major intervention system was triggered, causing disruptions at the CUM on the Promenade des Anglais, towards the airport. Fire engines, but also a GRDF team and the police were mobilized. A fire was detected on an electrical substation supplying the air conditioning system. A small gas leak was detected and quickly treated. In total, nearly 200 people were temporarily evacuated.
All danger was averted after the inspection of the premises, but the session did not resume. The outstanding deliberations have been rescheduled for the next session. An incident which occurs following an already very agitated metropolitan council. A twenty delected officials left the CUMsetting “fire” in the hemicycle. The rebels criticize the mayor and metropolitan president, Christian Estrosi, for not having invited them to a preparatory meeting on the financing of the future convention center.
