Three people were killed in an Israeli strike targeting their car on Thursday at the entrance to Saida, a city in southern Lebanon, in which five peacekeepers were injured, according to UNIFIL, as well as three Lebanese soldiers.
The bombing “The Israeli enemy targeted a car and caused the death of three passengers”said the army in a press release. It happened “when a convoy of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) passes an army roadblock”which controls the northern entrance to Saida, she said.
In a statement, UNIFIL said five peacekeepers had been “slightly injured”. “The UNIFIL convoy bringing peacekeepers recently arrived in southern Lebanon was passing Saida when a drone strike occurred nearby”she added. The army clarified that they were Malaysian peacekeepers. Three Lebanese soldiers who were stationed at the checkpoint controlling the entrance to Saida were also injured, according to the army.
UNIFIL, deployed further south, near the border with Israel, called on all parties to “avoid actions that endanger peacekeepers or civilians”.
