the essential
You have to pay around $56 for an iced Americano in this unusual café in southeast China.
The price may seem high, but this is no ordinary coffee. Gushi Cliff Coffee, a cafe perched on a cliff in the village of Gushi, China, has become a one-of-a-kind attraction. Located 70 meters above the sea, it offers a dizzying $56 experience with spectacular views of the coastline and even the Taiwan Strait, reports CNN. The offer includes insurance, safety equipment, a drink, a guide and a photo session.
Subsidized by the Chinese government
Visitors to this café, which opened on October 1, can sit on a carpeted bench overlooking the void. From their perch, they can take impressive photos. Supported by a government subsidy of 1.5 million yuan, this place contributes to the tourist revitalization of the village of Gushi, previously little-known, and which now attracts an audience seeking thrills.
Besides adrenaline seekers, some celebrate milestone moments, such as marriage proposals, and share their exploits on Xiaohongshu, China's equivalent of Instagram. Although opinions are divided, the place is never empty, welcoming around 50 visitors during the week and double that on weekends.
