In his victory speech, the new president of the United States assured that he will end the war in Ukraine
“I will stop wars” declared Donald Trump last night, just re-elected President of the United States. The Republican candidate had already assured during his campaign that he would “end Russia's war in Ukraine within '24 hours'” if he returned to the White House.
This Wednesday, the Kremlin spokesperson responded to him. “It is not possible to end the war between Russia and Ukraine overnight,” Dmitry Peskov said at a press conference on November 6.
“We have repeatedly stated that the United States can help end the conflict in Ukraine. This obviously cannot happen overnight,” he then qualified. He also said he was unaware of any congratulations from Russian President Vladimir Putin to Trump.
“Get” the United States out of the conflict in Ukraine
According to the Kyiv Post, Trump's plan to end the war in “24 hours” and “exit” the United States from the conflict in Ukraine would likely benefit Russia. The then candidate planned to cede Ukrainian territory by creating autonomous regions in the east of the country. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was also skeptical about Trump's ability to achieve this “without giving our territory to Putin”.
It should be noted that a reduction in US aid to Ukraine would have consequences for the US economy, as the defense industry has received more than $50 billion in investment thanks to support for Ukraine.
Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated Donald Trump on his victory on Wednesday and expressed hope for “strong bipartisan support in the United States for Ukraine”.
