Near Kursk, the Ukrainian armed forces had a first clash with the North Korean military; following a Russian strike on Zaporizhzhya, six people lost their lives, and the number of injured rose to 26; more than 100 Western personalities call to protect Ukraine with a “Munich pact”.
“The path to victory still exists.” More than 100 Western figures call for protecting Ukraine with a “Munich pact” regardless of US elections
Ukraine continues to resist large-scale Russian aggression, but as the US elections approach, the country and its allies face the threat of a scenario similar to that of Munich in 1938 — regardless of outcome of the American elections. However, another path exists to help Ukraine defeat Russia.
This is mentioned in an open letter that collected more than 100 signatures from Western politicians, scientists, military figures, journalists and other public actors. According to the letter, if Donald Trump wins the US election, his administration could impose a deal with Russia, compromising Ukraine’s interests and threatening European security. If Kamala Harris wins, a policy of stagnation and red lines could continue, thus depriving Ukraine of the means necessary to win the war.
In this scenario, the letter underlines, the fatalism of certain European governments, which do not believe in a Ukrainian victory and are inclined to limit themselves to strengthening NATO defense in the face of a Ukrainian defeat, could play a determining role in within the Alliance and weaken it.
In each case, the parallels with the 1938 Munich Agreement are obvious, the document says. “It would be a false peace, obtained at the price of the abandonment of a sovereign state,” declares the text, adding that an even larger and more devastating war is expected in the future.
The signatories emphasize that there is a third path that would allow Ukraine to resist and win the war against Russia.
“Ukraine’s path to victory still exists. This is well understood by the Defense Ministries of NATO countries in Europe,” say the signatories.
The letter states that the proposed plan is for a coalition of NATO countries, willing to engage, to commit to strengthening military and financial support for Kyiv and reaffirming their commitment to a sovereign Ukraine within its borders. recognized by international law, with a clear strategy for victory.
This is the principle of “those who want can act”, underline the authors of this open letter. This means that this path of support for Ukraine and its victory does not require the unanimous approval of all 32 NATO members, but could be implemented by a coalition of “willing people”, including all those who have committed to returning the currently occupied territories to Ukraine and then providing real security guarantees to Kyiv.
“This is necessary to avoid any immediate devastating impact in Ukraine after the elections,” the letter concludes.

Near Kursk, first clash between the Ukrainian armed forces and the North Korean military – FT
Ukrainian sources announced a first armed clash between Ukrainian fighters and North Korean soldiers in the Kursk region in Russia, reports the Financial Times.
A senior Ukrainian intelligence official confirmed military actions but declined to provide details of the initial clash. He said it took place in the Kursk region of Russia, where Ukraine controls about 600 km² of territory, just over half of what it controlled after the summer invasion.
The Main Directorate of Military Intelligence of Ukraine reported that Russia equipped North Korean troops deployed in Kursk with 60mm mortars, automatic rifles, machine guns, sniper rifles, anti-tank missiles and man-portable missile systems.
According to information, some of them are also equipped with night vision devices and thermal cameras. Several hundred North Korean special forces troops were also deployed to Kursk.
Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Center for Combating Disinformation at the National Security Council, said in Telegram that “North Korea’s first military units are already under fire in Kursk.”
