The path to victory is clear. Donald Trump has just won Pennsylvania, one of the seven “swing states”, according to projections by American media CNN and NBC.
The Republican candidate won 50.9% of the vote, according to CNN, ahead of his rival, Kamala Harris, who totaled 48% of the vote. While the counting is 95% complete, the billionaire has more than 188,000 votes in advance.
The Republican thus won the 19 major voters associated with this state in the northeast of the United States, which has 13 million inhabitants.
In this crucial state, nicknamed the “Keystone State,” voting was disrupted by long lines and bomb threats.
Pennsylvania, along with Wisconsin and Michigan, is one of the “blue wall” states, historically Democratic but which have been able to swing in recent years. Donald Trump won these three states in 2016 against Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden took them back in 2020.
A sign of its importance in the race for the White House, the two candidates have increased their trips to the state.
For Kamala Harris, winning these three states was one of the keys to success. “We have always known that our clearest path to the 270 electors is through the blue wall states. We are happy with what we see there,” assured the vice-president’s campaign manager, Jen O’Malley Dillon, during the night. With the loss of Pennsylvania, the situation becomes almost impossible for the Democratic camp.
