A well-designed and neat smartphone

The Motorola Edge 40 Neo is a smartphone that has particularly neat lines, a beautiful, slightly curved screen and side edges highlighted by an elegant metal effect bezel. Special mention also for its soft-touch textured plastic back, which promises a comfortable grip. The smartphone is also rather light (172 g) and not very thick (7.89 mm); it can therefore be forgotten in a pocket. And the cherry on the cake, it is IP68 certified, and therefore dust-resistant and waterproof, which is rather rare in the mid-range segment.

The smartphone also includes a nice 6.55-inch pOLED panel, with a 2,400 x 1,080 pixel display. It also offers a variable refresh rate that automatically adjusts from 60 Hz to 120 Hz depending on usage, but if that's not enough for you, the 144 Hz mode, accessible from the smartphone settings, will satisfy you a little. little more. Very bright, HDR compatible and covering 120% of the DCI-P3 spectrum, the Edge 40 Neo's screen flatters the retina, despite colorimetry that sometimes lacks naturalness.

A balanced technical sheet

In terms of performance, the Edge 40 Neo is based on a MediaTek Dimensity 7030, associated with 12 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256 GB of storage space. Although the most resource-intensive applications may have a little difficulty running without slowing down, the smartphone is generally fluid and pleasant to use on a daily basis. In gaming, it shines less and is simply not a smartphone dedicated to gaming, but the performance is respectable and the heating is never excessive, which is reassuring.

Concerning its photo capabilities, the Motorola Edge 40 Neo integrates two sensors: a 50 Mpx wide-angle and a 13 Mpx ultra-wide-angle. In broad daylight, the photos captured are very satisfactory, with a good level of detail, provided you don't zoom in too much. The ultra-wide-angle is, however, a bit disappointing due in particular to a somewhat bland colorimetry. Finally, in terms of autonomy, the Motorola Edge 40 Neo contains a 5,000 mAh battery, which allows it to last a day, but no more. Fortunately, 68W fast charging is included and offers a full charge in 48 minutes.
