Tuesday, November 5, 2024 – Voting day in the United States of America, the leading power in the world, for the election of the 47th President of the Republic. The election of the next tenant of the White House does not go unnoticed in Guinea.
On the evening of Tuesday, November 5, our editorial staff gave the floor to Guineans who expressed their opinions on this highly contested election in the polls, pitting former President Donald Trump, from the Republican camp, against the former vice-president. -President Kamala Harris, from the Democratic camp.
Questioned by our editorial team, Lamabank Diallo, who is interested in geopolitics and usually speaks in popular foreign media, declared: “politics in general interests me, especially when it concerns the leading world power. . I think that these elections represent a lot for Guinea, both in terms of the conduct of the campaigns, the electoral process and the results. In campaigns in several states, we’ve watched candidates come out on top on issues like abortion, migration, and more, often in terms that can be vulgar but not angry. »
In the eyes of Lamabank Diallo, a teacher by profession, the American electoral process should greatly inspire the Guinean political landscape, which is polluted by bad interpretations of the subjects. “Regarding the progress of the process, 240 million Americans are called to the polls, and this has not disrupted the administration or generated conflicts, which is due to good organization. We cannot compare this to Guinea, where we do not even have 5 million voters, but the conflicts are inexplicable. Regarding the results, many Guinean parents are keeping an eye on this election, especially since they think that the election of Trump will worry our migrant brothers and sisters. However, the American presidency is not an absolute power like in our sad country, where the president decides everything”
Who, Kamala Harris or Donald Trump, is better placed to direct the destiny of the United States of America for the next four years? For this Guinean citizen, interviewed by MediaGuinee, the choice is quickly made. “I prefer Trump, even if he is frowned upon. I consider him a great political businessman who adapts to every situation he faces. I’m sure many Americans share my opinion, which is why they gave him a second chance, realizing they made a mistake in thinking Joe Biden was better than Trump. His election could also help ease the war in Ukraine,” he said.
Continuing, Ibrahima Djenaba, general supervisor of a local private school, prefers the Democrats to preside over the destiny of the United States of America. “I feel more Democratic than Republican, despite some of the Democrats’ ideas that I don’t approve of. The Republicans are against immigration, while the diaspora helps us enormously. »
