The National 3 match between AS Corte and the Olympique de Marseille reserve took an unexpected turn this weekend. According to Provencea scuffle broke out at the end of the match, marked by the 2-0 defeat of Marseillais. As the players headed towards the tunnel, Robinio Vaz, an Olympian striker, allegedly kicked a ball towards a fence where Corte supporters were located, a gesture which would have sparked tensions.
According to Marseille sources cited by Provencearound “forty people, but not Corsican players” then entered the tunnel “as if the gates had opened”. Several members of the OM staff, one of whom reportedly received a punch, tried to protect their player in the face of the situation. “Without the three Olympians who stood in the way, we would have been dismantled”confides a source close to the team.
Young striker Robinio Vaz and a player from Corte were expelled following this incident, and the Marseille delegation is now awaiting the committee's decision to know the duration of their striker's suspension. Provencereports that this episode “shocked” the Marseille team, marking a tense end to the evening for the delegation.
