Although the price of fuel has stopped its decline, it remains fairly stable overall with a very slight increase. We take stock.
The price of fuel is one of the major concerns of motorists, even though it has risen sharply in recent years. In particular, the war in Ukraine as well as the conflict in the Middle East, which had the effect of causing the price of the barrel of oil. But in recent months, there has been a very slight downward trend at service stations in France. Good news for all drivers, while purchasing power is generally decreasing here.
A fuel that remains fairly stable
But then, where are we at the moment? Well, on November 1, the Ministry of Territories, Ecology and Housing updated the average prices for diesel and unleaded gasoline 95 (SP95), confirming a favorable situation for motorists, despite slight short-term upward fluctuations. Rest assured, however, we are far from a real fuel surge. And for good reason, the price of a liter of diesel recorded a small increase of only 0.03 cents, standing at 1.6008 euros. This figure still remains well below the high levels observed at the start of the year. Diesel had in fact reached its peak in February with an average monthly price close to 1.80 euros per litre. Since this period, a gradual decline has begun. At the end of July, the liter was still selling around 1.68 euros, before falling by 8 cents in August, reaching only 1.60 euros. This The dynamic continues, despite slight occasional increases, offering users of diesel vehicles much more attractive prices than at the start of the year.
Quit du sans-plomb?
On the gasoline side, the trend is similar but with some particularities. THE unleaded 95 also observed a modest increase of 0.03 cents, bringing its price to 1.7061 euros per liter at the beginning of November. This price has remained relatively stable since the end of August, after a drop of 4 cents in one week, reducing the price of gasoline from 1.75 euros to 1.71 euros per liter. However, if we go back a little further, we see that the price of gasoline experienced a marked surge in the spring, peaking at 1.90 euros per liter on average in April. This increase was followed by a lull, with prices gradually falling to stabilize around 1.70 euros per liter in September. But what are these fluctuations due to? In fact, you should know that the evolution of fuel prices in France is closely linked to fluctuations in the global oil market, and in particular to the price of Brent, which constitutes a reference for crude oil. However, the price of the latter also fell slightly this week, continuing a trend that began during the previous two weeks.
Currently, Brent is trading at $73 per barrel, up from $74.1 at the last measurement. Very good news for motorists, especially during this end-of-year period and the first purchases of Christmas gifts.
