The Democratic and Republican Alliance (Adere), led by Dijob Divungi Di Ndingue, has officially chosen to support “Yes” during the constitutional referendum scheduled for November 16. During its fifth National Council held on November 2, 2024, Adere decided to actively participate in this popular consultation, judging the proposed text as a step forward towards a new era for Gabon. Armelle Doumalewa, executive president of Adere, affirmed that each province has given its agreement to adopt this text, symbolizing a new beginning for the country.
Despite certain reservations, Adere sees in this text an essential starting point to put the country back on the rails of normality. Recognizing that the constitutional project “ is not perfect », Doumalewa nevertheless believes that it will allow a return to constitutional order and represents an opportunity to guarantee democracy, national cohesion and hope for the Gabonese people. Adere, constant in its fight for the DTE (Destitution, Transition, Elections) since 2016, emphasizes that this transitional stage begins the last phase towards elections to fully restore constitutional order.
Promise of rupture and political renewal
Dijob Divungi Di Ndingue, leader of Adere, insists on the historical importance of the constitutional referendum, which he considers as a promise of a definitive break with the previous system. According to him, the proposed constitutional project responds to a necessity: rebuilding institutions, reconfiguring governance and redirecting Gabon's strategic orientations. However, he expresses a certain reservation regarding the discussions which, according to him, have focused mainly on institutional reforms, to the detriment of the human and strategic dimensions, also crucial for sustainable transformation.
For Adere, support for “ Oui » reflects a calculated but sincere adherence to this transition process. The party hopes that this text is only a first step and that future reforms will go further to build a new and inclusive Gabon. Through this position, Adere aspires to a renovated Gabon, based on solid institutional foundations while taking into account the human and strategic issues that will accompany this transition to a true democracy.
