Zitouni reiterates State's commitment to controlling coffee prices

The Minister of Trade and Export Promotion, Tayeb Zitouni, recalled, Tuesday in Constantine where he was on a working visit, the State's commitment to ensuring the availability and controlling the prices of widely consumed products, especially coffee.

Mr. Zitouni reiterated, in this context, the State's commitment to preserving the purchasing power of citizens by putting an end to the actions of intermediaries and speculators who have deregulated the coffee market and who, he he emphasized, were “localized”.

The minister added, according to the APS, that the State will be “intransigent” and that the law will be “applied in all its rigor”, recalling in this regard that the provisions of executive decree no. 24-279 of August 20, 2024 fixing the capping of the price of coffee for consumption and the profit margins ceilings on importation as well as on distribution, at the wholesale and retail stages, were executed “to the letter”.

Mr. Zitouni also announced, in this context, that the importation of this type of product, in particular coffee, will now be accessible to public operators, such as the Agro-Industry Group (AGRODIV).

Still as part of its efforts to control prices and preserve the purchasing power of citizens, the State is working to increase the number of supermarkets through national investments and foreign partnerships. He indicated, in this regard, that several international brands have expressed the wish to integrate the Algerian market.

The Minister of Trade and Export Promotion had previously inaugurated the National Production and Export Exhibition which brings together more than 120 exhibitors at the Ahmed-Bey Hall (Zénith).
