Ethiopian Airlines took delivery this Tuesday morning in Toulouse, France, of the first of four A350-1000s expected in the fleet.
The first aircraft of this type to be operated by an African operator, the aircraft which bears the serial number 691 and the registration ET-BAW must return today to its base at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport.
It has a 395-seat configuration and offers the largest business class cabin in the airline's fleet. The large capacity and renowned comfort of the A350-1000 will enable Ethiopian Airlines to improve its service to key destinations such as Washington DC, London, Paris and Frankfurt.
The Ethiopian national airline is the largest Airbus operator in Africa. It already operates a fleet of 20 A350-900s and an additional 14 A350s are expected to join the airline's fleet in the coming years, including 11 A350-900s and three additional A350-1000s. The A350-1000 will offer high operational similarities with the A350-900 fleet, ensuring seamless integration with common pilots and mechanics, simplifying training and maintenance processes.
The Ethiopian Airlines fleet also includes 29 Dash 8s, 38 B737s (including 18 MAX 8s), 2 B767-300s (including 2 in storage), 20 B777s (including 10 Cargo / Freighters), 28 B787 Dreamliners.
By the end of September 2024, 1,340 A350s had been ordered by 60 customers worldwide.
