Optical fiber at €10 per month: operator DIGI cuts prices in a fourth European country

In Belgium, Mobile Vikings, a subsidiary of Proximus, charges €55 per month for a 1 Gbps fiber connection. That’s €45 more per month, €540 per year.

One unknown remains: the quality of DIGI's fixed network in Portugal.

Mobile subscription from €4 per month

The comparison also hurts on the mobile front. DIGI on Portuguese territory is:

  • Unlimited mobile subscription (calls, data) at €7 per month for a single SIM card, €6 per unit for two SIM cards, €5 per unit from three SIM cards.
  • Mobile subscription at €4 per month (unlimited calls, 50 GB of data). The following levels: €5 per month (unlimited calls, 100 GB), €6 (unlimited calls, 150 GB).

Digital television is also part of the catalog. Price: €12 per month for 60 channels.

A complete pack at €34 per month

On this basis, DIGI presented combinations at a press conference at (very) competitive prices. Example: 1 Gbps fiber (€10) + (€12) + 2 unlimited mobile subscriptions (€12) = €34 per month.

The pack that comes closest to it at Proximus (500 Mbps fiber, 2 unlimited SIMs, TV) costs €138.99 per month, €141.99 from January 1, 2025 and increases of 233 prices. That is €1,295.88 more over the whole of 2025.

DIGI active in four European countries and soon in Belgium

The telecoms operator DIGI markets its telecoms products in four European countries: Romania, Spain, Italy and now Portugal.

Romania is the group's major market, with 57.9% of the €918 million in revenues generated in the first half of 2024, ahead of Spain (40.5%) and Italy (1.6%).

As of June 2024, DIGI had 25.5 million customers in Europe.

In Belgium, the Romanian DIGI joined forces with the Belgian Citymesh to create the joint venture DIGI Belgium, which deploys its fiber optic network in Brussels and its mobile network throughout the country.

Announced before the end of summer 2024, the launch of DIGI Belgium is still awaited.
