“It’s not easy to find a good-sized and well-located business in Vannes. When we found out this one was available – this institution! -, we immediately applied to take it over. After two months of work, we will finally be able to open it.” The business that Dominique Loriot, the director of the food network of the Eureden cooperative group, is talking about is the Blanche Duault decoration store, which closed its doors this summer. Le Récolteur will open in its place, at 7, rue Le Hellec, on Wednesday November 6. After Ploemeur and Auray, this is the third food store of this brand to open in Morbihan. They are in addition to dedicated spaces in Point Vert and Magasin Vert garden centers, in Plescop and Saint-Avé in particular, which belong to the Eureden agri-food group. In the Harvester, locally grown fruits and vegetables will be sold, as well as meat (processed or not) and dairy products from local farmers. 1,500 references will be available for sale.
Open six days a week
“The poultry comes from Séné, other products come from Arradon, Locoal-Mendon, Bignan… for the most part these are foodstuffs that come from farms near Vannes. We have around sixty partner producers,” says Dominique Loriot. On the shelves, labels will indicate to customers the mileage covered by the products before arriving on the shelf. Le Récolteur is not part of the tradition of producer stores, which practice consignment sales. The products are purchased by the brand from farmers and resold to customers.
“We asked producers to be present the first week the store opened. Because it is important to explain how poultry are fed and in what conditions they are raised. Or why, for example, there are few apples this year and they are late,” says Dominique Loriot. Le Récolteur has 150 m² of sales area. The store employs four employees, with only one day of closure: Monday. In a town of Vannes which has no shortage of stores placed in the same niche, the manager of Eureden does not believe he has to suffer from too much competition. “The trend is towards greater and greater fragmentation of purchasing processes. The dynamic is buoyant”…
