The state of natural disaster has been recognized in 375 municipalities, according to a decree published in Official JournalTuesday November 5. This state of natural disaster was recognized mainly for the exceptional floods that occurred from October 16 to 20 and which particularly affected the Center-East and the South.
This text, which concerns eleven departments, paves the way for insurance compensation. The municipalities concerned are located in Ardèche, Rhône, Loire, Alpes-Maritimes, Yvelines, Essonne, Lozère, Loire-Atlantique, Eure-et-Loir, Haute-Loire and Corrèze. Almost all of the municipalities concerned are affected by floods and mudslides over the period from October 16 to 20, 2024.

The Center-East had been particularly affected, especially Ardèche. In total, more than a thousand people were evacuated, roads, railways and schools were closed and several thousand homes were deprived of electricity.
Météo-France had specified that Ardèche had been affected by the Cévennes episode “the most intense ever recorded over two days since the beginning of the 20the century “. The increase in natural disasters goes hand in hand with global warming.
