North Korean troops, Moldova… Update on the night

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky deplored Monday evening “an increase in the number of North Koreans but no increase in the reaction of our partners.” He claims that 11,000 troops sent by Pyongyang are currently in the Kursk region of Russia.

Russian diplomacy criticized the“undisguised interference” of the West in the Moldovan presidential election, which saw the victory of the pro-European outgoing president Maia Sandu.

North Korean soldiers: Zelensky deplores lack of reaction from Ukraine's allies

Monday evening, Volodymyr Zelensky affirmed that 11,000 soldiers sent by Pyongyang were in the Kursk region, bordering Ukraine, where the Kremlin has been trying to repel an offensive by kyiv forces since August, which seized dozens of localities.

“We see an increase in the number of North Koreans but no increase in the reaction of our partners” Westerners, lamented the Ukrainian president in his daily address.

A Pentagon spokesperson, for his part, estimated Monday that “at least 10,000” the number of North Korean troops currently in the Kursk region, adding that they would be “around 11,000 to 12,000” in total in Russia.

Moldova: Russia accuses Western countries of interference

After a tense campaign, overshadowed by suspicions of interference from Moscow, pro-European Moldovan President Maia Sandu was finally re-elected. If Moldova's Western allies welcomed the re-election of pro-European President Maia Sandu on Monday, Russia denounced this result.

Moscow accused the West of“undisguised interference” in the election. “It was the least democratic electoral campaign since Moldova’s independence” in 1991, criticized Russian diplomatic spokesperson Maria Zakharova in a message on Telegram, assuring that the Moldovan authorities had repressed “the opposition and the independent media, especially Russian-speaking”.

The outcome of the election, on the other hand, is a relief for the European Union, which officially opened accession negotiations with the small country of 2.6 million inhabitants in June. Especially since the referendum of October 20, aimed at including the European objective in the Constitution, almost came to an end. It was ultimately approved narrowly.
