prison for this pro-Palestine activist who rejoiced at the death of Israeli hostages

A pro-Palestinian figure from imprisoned since September 19 for advocating terrorism was sentenced Monday to three years in prison, including one year under an electronic bracelet, for messages published on social networks.

The Nice criminal court declared the 34-year-old young woman guilty of the 13 offenses with which she was charged — offenses of advocating crimes against humanity, provocation of discrimination and provocation of hatred due to origin — and went beyond the 30 months in prison, including 12 months, required by the prosecution.

Mother and caregiver in the second year of nursing school, the activist co-founded the association “From Nice to Gaza” and was one of the main leaders of the pro-Palestinian demonstrations which have followed one another in Nice since October 2023, at the cost of a standoff lasting several months with prefect Hugues Moutouh.

If the demonstrations remained calm, the young woman's publications on the social network X (formerly Twitter) had become particularly virulent since June.

“October 7 is self-defense for the Palestinians”, “since October 7, I have been anti-Semitic”: in addition to these messages, she also commented with a “Mazel Tov!” (congratulations in Hebrew) a publication by the mayor of Nice Christian Estrosi paying tribute to six Israeli hostages killed by Hamas in Gaza.

“Very violent words”

She also added the following comment to a photo of Israeli flags on fire: “A dream that will come true, you are combustible.” Elsewhere, she deplored that Hamas “has not finished its work”.

She also wondered about an Israeli army reservist of Nice origin: “Is the genocidal Zionist from Nice back in Nice? After committing the murder of Palestinian women and children, his hands are covered in blood.”

Impassive in the box during the trial on October 21, she admitted not having “measured” the consequences of her words. “There is a genocide in progress, 40,000 dead, 90,000 injured, I recognize very violent words but I do not recognize the way in which it is interpreted,” she defended herself.

In addition to the prison sentence, she was ordered to publish the decision at her own expense in the daily newspapers Le Monde and Nice-Matin, and to pay a total of more than 13,500 euros to the reservist and to four associations fighting against anti-Semitism, who had become civil parties.
