There are numbers that can make you smile, depending on which side you are on of course. This weekend, the Korean Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, who needs no introduction, won his fifth Worlds. This is much more than many, many, many people, especially all the Chinese teams.
Faker on top of the world, again and again
The fourteenth Worlds of League of Legends did not disappoint anyone, the spectacle was there and it must be admitted that the atmosphere too (especially in Paris, dude). Now that the festivities are over, we can look at some slightly more trivial but still nice statistics.
If the rivalry between China and South Korea has always been very strong in esports, Faker has decided to give no chance to the LPL teams who have still not managed to take him down in Riot's international competition. Race results: he alone holds more world championships than all the Chinese teams combined. If we establish a ranking with all the nations, teams and players (which makes no sense, let's admit it), he is quietly positioned on the podium.

The coaches were not included in the ranking for logical reasons, we are talking about players here, but you should know that one of them has something to impress the gallery: the famous Kim “kkOma” Jeong-gyun who works at T1. He led the team to four of the five titles won by the Korean team, in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2024.

The three elders still standing
In terms of seniority too, Faker is very strong. In 2013 he won his first Worlds and today is one of only three players to have participated in this competition as well as in the 2024 edition, with Impact (T1 at the time, Team Liquid today) and Maple ( Gamania Bears at the time, PSG Talon today).
We will now have to be patient to witness the resumption of hostilities next January. The regional championships will resume and lead to a first international tournament, the First Stand, which will be held in March in Korea. A new trophy for T1, while waiting for the 2025 Worlds?
