Infiltrations Into Military Bases: Dismantling Of A Criminal Network In Israel

Israeli police and the Defense Ministry on Monday revealed details of a massive operation that led to the dismantling of a criminal network that facilitated the entry of unauthorized people into sensitive military installations.

A secret investigation carried out in recent months by the elite Lahav 433 unit and the Defense Ministry's security service has uncovered a scheme involving several contractors who won tenders for infrastructure works on military bases. The latter are suspected of having knowingly employed unauthorized workers and illegal immigrants.

The investigation also revealed an alleged corruption scheme, including bribes paid to officials who allegedly facilitated the falsification of documents allowing access to military installations. On October 28, law enforcement searched the homes of five residents of the territories, discovering counterfeit materials used to falsify various documents, including driver's licenses and equipment licenses. Four additional suspects were arrested on Monday. The court ordered the detention of three suspects until November 7 and a fourth until November 5. The five suspects arrested last week will appear before the Ofer military court tomorrow for a possible extension of their detention.

The investigation continues.
