Struck by lightning, Peruvian footballer dies in the middle of a match, goalkeeper seriously burned

Sunday November 3, during a match in Peru between Juventud Bellavista and Familia Chocca, defender José Hugo de la Cruz Meza was struck by lightning. He died a few hours later. Juan Choca, the goalkeeper, is also in serious condition.

It's a real tragedy… Sunday November 3, during a football match in Peru, player and defender José Hugo de la Cruz Meza was struck by lightning. He died a few hours after being hit.

A guard seriously burned

Goalkeeper Juan Choca was also hit by lightning and is in serious condition. He suffered serious burns.

According to Sports World the meeting took place at 4 p.m. at the Coto Coto stadium, in Chicha. The events took place when the players were leaving the field, because the match had just been stopped. The injured were rushed to the Carrión Hospital in Huancayo.

The death of José Hugo de la Cruz Meza was certified by doctors. The health status of the other affected players is still unknown.
