(Trois-Rivières) The Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI) has launched an investigation following the death of a man during a police intervention which took place Saturday evening in Trois-Rivières.

The Nouvelliste specifies that the operation took place on rue Arthur-Vaillancourt in the Cap-de-la-Madeleine sector.
According to preliminary information released by the BEI, a person called 911 around 9 p.m. to report another person in crisis inside a residence.
Officers from the Trois-Rivières police department arrived on the scene a few minutes later. They were expected by the person who had contacted the emergency services. They then decided to enter the building.
Upon entering the residence, officers allegedly observed a person holding a firearm. They then opened fire, injuring this person.
The victim was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The BEI deployed five investigators to examine the circumstances surrounding the death. He did not request support from another police force.
The BEI also launched a call for witnesses.
