The city of Limoges has issued a municipal decree to prohibit home meal delivery workers from parking in the city center at certain times, France Bleu Limousin reported on Sunday, November 3. The municipality explains that it is a “experimental measurement”. This decree comes into force from Monday until April 1, 2025.
The town hall explains on its website that it made this decision after having “been questioned on numerous occasions by local residents and traders confronted with multiple nuisances and incivilities linked to the groupings of delivery couriers on public property, near catering establishments”. She points out that other cities such as Nancy and Nice have taken similar measures.
Thus, delivery people from platforms such as Uber Eats or Deliveroo, whether they are on motorized two-wheelers or not, are prohibited from parking between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and between 4:30 p.m. and 1 a.m. within a defined area. “Delivery couriers will be able to make a temporary stop within this scope, for the time necessary to take care of a takeaway order or deliver it, and will have to freely organize their waiting periods”explains the municipality. Violators face a fine of 35 euros.
Jean-François Pailloux, president of the Pignon sur Rue merchants' association, who lives in the city center of Limoges, is in favor of this decree because, according to him, there is noise pollution. “I have nothing against them, they have to work. But there are more and more of them and they don’t realize the atmosphere they create”he explains to France Bleu Limousin.
Conversely, Sami is worried. For this 30-year-old deliveryman, being kept away from restaurants while waiting for orders can represent a real loss of income. “If you are closest, you receive the order first”he emphasizes. He believes that this decision by the city is “unfair” because, he says, he waits for orders without making noise and travels on an electric bike. He is convinced that this municipal decree will financially penalize delivery people while this work “is difficult and poorly paid“, he continues.
